Crazy = Genius: Why is creativity associated with madness?

I’m a little bit fixated on the dynamics between inner and outer worlds at the moment. The concept of duelling of polarities within one entity. The Scots call it 'Caledonian Antisyzygy'. I don't know what you call it when you're from London.

Dear Writing Buddies, You The Best

February 16, 2016February 16, 20167 Comments

Solitude is the school of genius. Or so said Edward Gibbon. It’s one of those widely accepted things that if you’re a writer you must be, in some way, antisocial and a little bit weird. After all, writing is supposed to be inherently solitary. Why? Because the only fingers than can put your words on … Continue reading Dear Writing Buddies, You The Best

the scribble bug

Almost all Scribblers suffer from the The Scribble Bug. It’s an incurable condition, with common symptoms including bibliophilia, logophilia and a peculiar love of ink, paper and the smell of old books. And that’s what this blog is really all about.

Chasing waterfalls 🌺🌊🌿 . . And that’s a wrap on the first adventure of 2019 - I’m back in chilly, old London and feeling really rather excited for the rest of the year. There’s a lot to do - not least getting the ball running on pitching Renegade Earth to agents. Fingers crossed 🤞 . . “Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can't go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does.” - Margaret Atwood . . #orchidgardensingapore #dametraveler #botanicalgardens #alittlebeautyeveryday #bloomingdays #myeverydaymagic #travelgram #igtravel #neverstopexploring #positivity #chasingwaterfalls #suitcasetravels #passionpassport #iamatraveler #singapore #bookish #atwood #penelopiad #writerslife #amwriting
Keeping it surreal 🌊✨ . . Still not over the idea of having a casual jacuzzi surrounded by jungle and lily ponds in the back garden - Singapore really had zero chill. Not sure it would be quite the same to set something similar up in the U.K. though. . . “Human nature is like water, it takes the shape of its container.” Wallace Stevens . . #dametraveler #alittlebeautyeveryday #iamatraveler #singapore #travelgram #igtravel #poolside #lifesagardendigit #beautifuldestinations #bestplacestogo #suitcasetravels #notallthosewhowanderarelost #passionpassport #neverstopexploring
May the forest be with you 🌿🌺🌵 . . Did you know that trees communicate? They have a sophisticated silent language made up of smell, taste and electrical impulses. They’re social too - they’ll work with each other to share food and even nourish competitors. Why? Because they’re a community. Because a tree is not a forest. . . It’s pretty weird to think of trees as social - but this was just one of the facts I was reminded of at Singapore’s Botanical Gardens in Tanglin. Pretty fascinating huh? Definitely worth the amble (before the midday heat), especially through the stunning Orchid Gardens. Very peaceful. Very powerful. . . #singapore #tanglin #botanicalgardens #orchidgardensingapore #orchidflower #hiddenlifeoftrees #alittlebeautyeveryday #travelgram #igtravel #iamatraveler #dametraveler #neverstopexploring #passionpassport #suitcasetravels #abouttime #treelife #notallthosewhowanderarelost #notallthosewhowander

Beware of a Girl with a Book. She is dangerous. “There are those who say that life is like a book, with chapters for each event in your life and a limited number of pages on which you can spend your time. But I prefer to think that a book is like a life, particularly a good one, which is well to worth staying up all night to finish.” ― Lemony Snicket, Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid
